Well, it is New Year's Eve, and time for some reflections of the year. This year was an incredible milestone and turning point in my life.
This is the year that I turned my back on one childhood dream for another dream that I think will fulfill me more. I am delighted that I turned my eye toward human medicine and that I have found a discipline that I like so well: neurochemistry. Neurotransmitters are exceptionally fascinating to me, because of their ability to allow us to learn and grow and develop.
I also spent a good deal of this year learning about the skeptic community and the atheist community, something that both woke my brain up to new possibilities of learning and that told me that I wasn't alone. There are some amazing people out there, that have important and intelligent things to say, and their perspectives have given me all kinds of food for thought.
It is also the year that I had my wedding reception and my honeymoon. ;)
I look to the new year with hope and expectation: expectation that I will excel in my chosen field, and hope that I will be able to go to medical school and fulfill my dream.
Peace, love, and joy to all. Have a happy and safe New Year, with the hope of many to come.

Post-Holiday Bliss
After the hubbub of finals, vacations, and holidays I'm back online and feeling great. I had an amazing holiday with family.
And while we are awaiting the promised substantive posts, I thought I'd share this with you. It is a brilliant way of summing up all that I think is important about science, and why delving into fantasy and magical thinking is a dangerous road to travel if you are very very sick.

Peeking In
I haven't forgotten about you, and I will be back as soon as my finals are over. I wanted to talk about new residency rules, the kerfuffle over the health care bill and my internship at San Francisco General Hospital's Emergency Department.
But in the meantime, I got this from Friendly Atheist. Enjoy.

I'm Alive, I Swear!
Between finals, my belt test in karate (Shaolin Kempo, in case you are curious) and moving and selling furniture I have been incredibly busy.
I hope to come back soon with new material. But something occurred to me today.
I started this blog because I did not see any med school hopefuls (or students, for that matter) discussing their experiences trying to get into school or their experiences in school. And I feel like I have basically lost sight of that.
So what I am going to try to do is keep on top on new developments in medicine and various other things that I think are important to me as someone beginning a medical career.
A good place to start is the health care bill and new hours for residents. From there I will see what I come up with. As a member of the American Medical Student Association I get access to forums and newsletters, so I want to start talking about things that I think are important.
Part of doing this is finding my own voice. I think that I should try and reclaim that.

Hi Again
Yeah, between finals and a lot of moving, I've been incredibly busy. I am extremely proud that I finished a gown in 3 days though. I'm a bit of a seamstress and I have great fun putting those things together. Anyway, hope you enjoy this.
